Shopping

Rain! Rain! Rain! All weekend. Since I couldn’t get out and hike, I went shopping. The hiking tour company sent out a list of items that we would need to bring with us on our hike of the Dolomites. I headed over to REI to pick up a few things. $415 later here is my stash. On the bottom of that pile is a pair of jeans and a pair of lightweight hiking pants. Then from the left is a small flashlight, two aluminum hiking poles and moleskin for blisters and pressure points on my feet. Next is the undergarment that is all the rage among fashionable women in Europe this year…the undercover neck wallet for passport and money to thwart pickpockets. A new orange daypack, home to my cameras and water, etc. I love the color. If I fall off the mountain, they will see me go. The red package is a first aid kit and above that two more pairs of hiking socks. Be prepared. That’s my motto, or the Girl Scout’s motto. Somebody’s motto. I wasn’t a Girl Scout and Brownie leader for five years for nothing. Below are my new sport sandals for city walking. Comfortable!

I really like your travel gear! You’ll be happy you have it later on… 🙂

Thanks. I am particularly fond of the orange backpack and the purple hiking poles.

The orange backpack is fabulous! That would be the colour I’d pick for hiking too. Is it padded though? (on the shoulder straps and inside?) Or are you not carrying much camera gear? Oh – and did you buy a hat too? Or is it not likely to be very warm there?

      • Rosemarie May 6, 2013 at 12:24 pm #

A hat is recommended. I don’t normally wear hats, so I haven’t gotten around to that purchase yet. Do you recommend it also? The day pack is very light, and I don’t have heavy camera gear. I’m a novice.

I don’t have fancy camera gear. This is a very light day pack. A hat is recommended. I’m not a hat wearer so I haven’t purchased that yet.

Being happy is worth the light wallet, that’s for sure. I’m looking forward to your trip, having followed your photographs and words for so long. Can’t wait to see your pictures and hear about how much fun you had. I hate hats too but it’s a good idea to bring one.

    • Rosemarie May 6, 2013 at 6:20 pm #

Yeah, I’ll probably break down and get one.

How fun! I LOVE shopping at REI. Do you own a headlamp? I have replaced flashlights with headlamps and love it because they can stay on your head or strap onto the outside of your pack. 🙂

    • Rosemarie May 6, 2013 at 6:23 pm #

No headlamp. I really don’t like stuff on my head.

REI is a great place to get your gear! I hope you find a hat too, many are so light weight you shouldn’t notice them on your head

I just don’t like hat head, a cousin to helmet head.

Glad to read that I am not the only one who comes out with such a bill from REI.

Hi! I have just nominated you for the LIEBSTER Award. For more information, please go to: http://livingwithmyancestors.wordpress.com/2013/05/09/the-liebster-award/

    • Rosemarie May 10, 2013 at 3:27 am #

Thank you so much for the compliment. I will be honest with you. I have a couple of other nominations in my draft folder, and I have not found the time or motivation to complete all the requirements. School is out now, so I have a little more time, but I am also getting ready for my big trip. Again I thank you for considering me for nomination.

REI has attacked my wallet many, many times but oh the memories I have using the equipment I purchased. Thank you for the visit and the follow.
