This Tuesday wrapped everything up. My voice students all sang for their end of semester juries…two pieces each demonstrating their progress and their prowess. Many times it is a very stressful experience. I didn’t find that to be the case this year. I was proud of everyone and their growth over the semester. I am fortunate indeed to be able to work with very gifted singer-actors. I had to say goodbye to a few who are graduating and going off into the big world…maybe New York City…maybe LA. It’s farewell to the old stomping ground until next fall.
This is where I work. The glass atrium looks lovely lit up at night. Inside this building there is a huge state-of-the-art concert hall. There are also a number of classrooms and practice rooms, a few on the second floor, but most in the basement. The basement is where I teach. I have a utilitarian but spacious room with a grand piano. No windows, of course. When I teach straight through for four hours, I have no idea what sort of weather I will find when I leave the building. In St. Louis there could be anything, and it could be very different from what it was when I entered the building early in the morning. Webster University has recently been on a plan of development to include the construction of several new buildings, and here is the result.
Below is a portion of the new three level classroom building, and below that is the atrium of the building where I teach. Taken this spring with a late snow.
Now that school is out, I know that my vacation is a lot closer.
What a beautiful building. Your job sounds very fulfilling and exciting.
I get to work with some great kids who are brimming with talent.
looks and sounds wonderful rosemarie … now enjoy your holidays 🙂
Thank you.
How nice to be finished for the term. I’m so busy at school that my year can’t end soon enough. I don’t like counting the days or weeks because it stresses me to know how much work I still have ahead of me and so little time to get it done.
You’ll get there. That’s how I felt several weeks ago.
Wow! What beautiful place to work, Rosemarie!!
It is a lovely building. The classrooms are pretty typical.
What a lovely school! I remember living in the mountains the weather could undergo some dramatic changes, where I live now it is very stable. You are a musician and teacher that is awesome =) Do you play instruments? Sing?
Singer (classical and Broadway emphasis) and pianist, though I use my skills solely in the classroom now.
Amazing do you have any links for your performances?
I do not. No videos. Just some audio tapes and CD’s. The reluctant performer. I’m much better in the classroom.
I am shy too so I can understand, teaching is a wonderful profession for a while my husband taught mathematics as University its also a demanding profession
The building is beautiful, thanks for sharing the images, but it looks sooooo cold to me, spoiled by the tropics as I am. My son who’s voice recently broke is blessing us with singing heaps now, it is just so wonderful. All the best for your upcoming holiday.
Thank you. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.
I think I have wished you well for your forth coming vacation…. and thanks for reading my Mother’s Day post. We are also on a holiday countdown now and now have only about four months before a safari in South Africa’s Kruger National Park. Considering planning commenced in February 2012 it seems like next week to us! Bon Voyage, Rosemarie.
Your trip sounds amazing and I wish you a bon voyage as well. I am connected to a couple of blogs in South Africa. dewetswild just make a visit to Kruger National Park. Maybe you have seen their posts, but if not, you could check it out. They have many photos. Seeing all of that wildlife in the wild. That will be an amazing experience.
Have not seen the dewetswild blog as yet, but will have a look at it. I hope to post while on safari, and yes, we are looking forward to it.
Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog. I’m glad to read of your coming trip to Europe. We are in the middle of becoming expats to France and plan to blast off soon. Good luck on your trip! Alice
Good luck in your new life. I keep threatening to live abroad. My kids aren’t crazy about the idea.
My boys are ready to go. They liked the food. 😉
