School’s Out!

This Tuesday wrapped everything up. My voice students all sang for their end of semester juries…two pieces each demonstrating their progress and their prowess. Many times it is a very stressful experience. I didn’t find that to be the case this year. I was proud of everyone and their growth over the semester. I am fortunate indeed to be able to work with very gifted singer-actors. I had to say goodbye to a few who are graduating and going off into the big world…maybe New York City…maybe LA. It’s farewell to the old stomping ground until next fall.

This is where I work. The glass atrium looks lovely lit up at night. Inside this building there is a huge state-of-the-art concert hall. There are also a number of classrooms and practice rooms, a few on the second floor, but most in the basement. The basement is where I teach. I have a utilitarian but spacious room with a grand piano. No windows, of course.  When I teach straight through for four hours, I have no idea what sort of weather I will find when I leave the building. In St. Louis there could be anything, and it could be very different from what it was when I entered the building early in the morning. Webster University has recently been on a plan of development to include the construction of several new buildings, and here is the result.

Now that school is out, I know that my vacation is a lot closer.
